Former Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates midfielder Yanga Baliso has secured a move to AC Oulu in the Veikkausliiga.

Baliso, 25, parted ways with domestic rivals IFK Mariehamn last week after two seasons, where he impressed since being plucked from third-tier outfit Pargas IF.

He featured in 31 of their 34 games last season across all competitions, featuring in a deep-lying playmaker role, where he netted once and registered two assists.

Oulu has subsequently snapped him up swiftly on a one-year deal with an option to extend by another season.

“First of all, I’m happy to get to AC Oulu. I’m already looking forward to meeting my teammates, coaching, and other backgrounds,” he told the club’s website.

“I want to be a good team player and help the team achieve its goals next season.”

The club’s Sporting Director Markus Heikkinen was equally elated by their latest acquisition who looks set to add a new dimension to their midfield for the upcoming season.

“Yanga is a dynamic player who can play many different roles in the midfield. He likes to be on the ball a lot and knows how to progress the game both by pressing and passing,” he added.

“Thanks to his quick feet and endurance, he has time and is able to participate in the game with a large radius.

“Defensively, he is a stable player who does not shy away from duel situations. Great to have Yanga in Oulu!”

Baliso will now be aiming to continue his career trajectory which promised so much when he first graduated from the Ikamva set-up back 2016.
