The Bafana Bafana improvement that made Hugo Broos happy |

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has singled out the one improvement that made him happy after the just-ended training camp.

Bafana played two friendly matches against Mozambique on Thursday before hosting Angola at the Mbombela Stadium.

They won 2-1 against neighbours Mozambique before playing a 1-1 draw against Angola on Sunday. But Broos was pleased after noting one positive change in the team.

READY FOR MARCH

“We play good football. We create chances, and we can put the opponent under pressure. That was not the case in our games before,” he told journalists.

“We played against Sierra Leone as we played against Mozambique. We progress in the way we play. [It’s] something we need to take to March. I think we’re ready for March,” he said.

The Belgian, however, bemoaned the lack of endurance in his players, blaming it on the level of the PSL.

“[It’s the] same discussion we have had before. People are angry when we say the level of the PSL has to go up.

“Those players are not used to playing on that level, with that quality. [They can’t play] two games in three days.

“The tempo of this game [against Angola] was much higher than the tempo of the PSL.

“You saw their defence. You saw that. Football has to be like that,” he added.

BAFANA HAD FATIGUE

He believes his charges struggled against the Angolans due to fatigue. However, Angola were also playing Botswana when Bafana took on the Mambas on Thursday.

“There’s fatigue because you play higher than you can.”

The 70-year-old said there was little he could do as he only has the team five times a year.

“I can’t change that. I have the players five times a year. [We need to] increase the level also physically, and then they will be used to it [the intensity of international football].”

Bafana play Liberia in their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier set for March next year. Broos is confident they will qualify for AFCON 2023, set to be hosted by Cameroon.
