Kaizer Chiefs duo to start |

Bafana Bafana held their final training session ahead of the international friendly against Angola, and indications are that Hugo Broos will switch things up on Sunday.

Bafana welcome Palancas Negras at the Mbombela Stadium at 3pm, but Broos is likely to make several changes after the 2-1 win over Mozambique on Thursday.

FARPost watched the first phase of the team’s training session on Saturday evening and observed the following.

KAIZER CHIEFS DUO COULD START

The Kaizer Chiefs duo of Kgaogelo Sekgota and Njabulo Blom started from the bench for the midweek tie at the same venue.

The Belgian opted to start with Bongokuhle Hlongwane ahead of Sekgota, a decision he explained to FARPost on Saturday.

“He [Sekgota] played well against Sierra Leone, and I was happy with him. I started Hlongwane [Bongokuhle] ahead of him because I had not seen Hlongwane for a long time. I wanted to see him,” Broos told FARPost.

He added that he had been impressed by Hlongwane, who scored both goals on Thursday.

“There will be changes. It gives the guys who didn’t play on Thursday an opportunity to show their qualities,” the Belgian mentor said. Chances are that Blom will also slot in and start in midfield.

TIMM TO GET SOME REST

Broos further hinted that he would give some rest to players who have featured a lot for their clubs in the last two weeks.

Miguel Timm, who played a blinder against Mozambique, looks likely to be on the bench if Broos’ words are anything to go by.

“We don’t want to overload some of the players,” the Bafana boss said. Blom could play that defensive midfield role, with Nyiko Mobbie continuing at right back.

HLONGWANE COULD GET A LATE CAMEO

According to Broos, the Minnesota United forward, who last played competitive football mid-October, may have to make way for Sekgota.

But, having watched him score two quick goals against the Mambas, Broos may be tempted to give him a run late in the second half.

“Tomorrow [Sunday], the guys who didn’t play on Thursday have an opportunity to show me what they’re capable of.”

FAGRIE LAKAY AND KHANYISO MAYO

Lakay and Mayo, former teammates at Cape Town City, look set to get a run on Sunday.

Broos started with Zakhele Lepasa upfront, with Hlongwane and red-hot Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng on the wings.

The Bucs duo and Hlongwane could make way for Lakay, who turns out for Pyramids in Egypt, and Mayo as Broos looks to broaden his selection base.
