Broos Agrees With Doctor Over Zwane

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has agreed with Doctor Khumalo’s statement that Themba Zwane is the player who makes this current South Africa tick.

Zwane, 32, was called up to the national for the first time under Broos during the previous international break and immediately showed his class when scoring a brace in the 4-0 win over Sierra Leone.

The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder was also instrumental in Bafana’s 2-1 comeback win over Mozambique on Thursday, setting up Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s second goal.

After the match Doctor Khumalo had praised Zwane and compared him with the likes of Jomo Sono and John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu, with Broos agreeing with the judgement that Zwane is the man to make the difference for his side.

“I said already the same after the game against Sierra Leone and I admit when I came here I said I wanted to see the younger players first,” the Belgian tactician said when asked by iDiski Times about Doctor’s remarks.

“I’ve always said, Zwane no problem, but it’s a guy of 32 years old, when we go to AFCON he will be nearly 35, so I was looking more into the future, but we didn’t find him.

“I said last time ‘only fools don’t change their mind’, so I phone Themba and I have to agree [with Doctor Khumalo].

“I said it also after the game against Sierra Leone, this is maybe the missing link, this is the guy that can bring us to higher levels. Where he plays, he’s smart, he’s a good player, so yes, I agree with that.

“You see in the games against Sierra Leone and Mozambique, the role he played in this team. You can only be happy with that.”
