Mathiane – Morgan Is Like A Father

Chippa United defender Matome Mathiane has opened up on working under Morgan Mammila.

Mammila took over from Daine Klate after their 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns and went on a four-match winning run – the best in the club’s history – before they lost to Cape Town City.

Mathiane, who joined the Eastern Cape-based side from Golden Arrows, mentioned the impact he played in the team and the difference Morgan Mammila has played as a coach.

“I think it’s all about the teamwork and the mind change of the guys for this season. Players who have been playing for Chippa United they will tell you they always run relegation so some of us like Matome Mathiane, I’ve never played for a team that runs for relegation,” Mathiane told iDiski Times.

“The moment I arrived there I made sure I motivate the players to work very hard and tell them about the league, it’s not going to be easy.

“You have to put the hard work so that you save your job. We have families we support lots of families, we are from a poor background as well, so we need to work hard.

“I think most of the guys were relaxed, now we are working as a team and we are united, everyone is happy.”

Mathiane also explained that Mammila is more than just a coach.

“I think it has been a great opportunity to work with Morgan, he’s like a father to us,” Mathiane added.

“It’s nice to work with someone who believes in every player. You can say anything you want to say to him, your problems anything, just talk to him so when you are coached by such coaches you free to express yourself.”
