Spain coach Luis Enrique has called up FC Barcelona youngster Alejandro Balde into his squad as replacement for the injured Jose Luis Gaya.
Gaya picked up an injury in training and was not be able to take part in the tournament, leaving Enrique with no chance but to call up an emergency replacement.
Balde, 19, made 16 appearances for Barcelona this season, overtaking Jordi Alba in the pecking order of coach Xabi Gonzalez.
The young left-back made his debut for Barcelona in September 2021 and played a bit-part role in his first season, which was also disrupted by injuries.
However, in 2022/23 he has been one of the breakout stars in Xavi’s team that currently sits at the top of LaLiga.
Balde is yet to make his official Spain debut but represented the 2010 FIFA World Cup winners on all youth levels between U16 and U21.
