Maritzburg United has appointed Orlando Pirates goalkeeper coach Wayne Sandilands and Darian Wilken as the club assistant coach.

Another member who is coming back to the club is Burger Van Merwe, who is a physical trainer and was fired by the club at the end of last season alongside coach Ernst Middendorp.

He previously worked at AmaZulu before leaving them when they went down at the end of 2014/15 season to take over at the Team of Choice.

He is also very familiar with coach Fadlu Davids, as he worked with him before at the club when he was the assistant and head coach.

Another one who has come back at the club is Mueez Kajee, who will take over as the video analyst. He worked with Davids before at the club and with Middendorp also at the club and at the Free State Stars.

These additions are set to complete the technical team of the club following the appointment of Davids, who was appointed by the club officially on Monday.

When Davids was appointed by the club on Monday, the club did not mention his technical team, which is something still being ironed out by the club.

The reason for that was that Sandilands had to resign first at Pirates to take over his new job as he was serving as the goalkeeper coach to Josephs Makhanya in the DStv Diski Challenge.

Wilken’s matter was easy as he is coming in unattached after he left Pirates at the beginning of last season. But he kept contact with Davids, with both being conspicuously seen attending matches in the DStv Premiership.

In fact, iDiski Times has learnt all of them are in Pietermaritzburg, training the players to prepare for the resumption of the second half of the season in December. Maritzburg returned for the mini-break today.

Davids knows Wilken and Sandilands well having worked with them at Pirates when he was the assistant coach and also the co-coach of the club.

These changes were necessitated following the departure of John Maduka, who was sacked earlier this month alongside his assistant Ditheko Mototo and goalkeeper coach Simon Gopane due to the poor results.

The Team of Choice is currently rooted at the bottom with 11 points after 13 matches with only two wins to show for their effort, with all coming from home.

Davids, alongside his team, his first game in charge will be against TS Galaxy at home on 30 December when the season resumes.
