Mamelodi Sundowns hammered a 10-man Orlando Pirates side 4-0 to lift the Carling Black Label Cup at FNB Stadium.

Sundowns were given a huge boost in the first half when Thapelo Xoki’s dangerous lunge tackle to Lebogang Maboe’s ankle was spotted by Abongile Tom who flashed a red card.

Just three minutes later, Siphelele Mkhulise, playing in the false nine, controlled the ball with his chest to set himself up to catch Siyabonga Mpontshane off his line in the 23rd minute.

Sundowns, aware that Pirates were one man down, relentlessly piled forward and they were rewarded with the second when Grant Kekana slotted an easy finish in the  33rd minute, tapping in a cross of Aubrey Modiba from close range.

Cassius Mailula made it three two minutes later, passing into the net in the 35th minute following another cross by Modiba.

Pirates were trying to play from the back and they were duly punished as Sundowns outnumbered them to recycle the ball to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

Sundowns took the foot off the pedal in the second half, but they were still dominant in creating chances.

Mailula continued to shine for Masandawana, scoring the fourth on the night in the 66th minute, with Pirates’ defence failed to close him down.

Sundowns have now collected four wins, scoring 15 goals without conceding since Rulani Mokwena was named the sole head coach.
