Motorists urged to be on high alert

Heavy rains this week have damaged a number of roads around Gauteng.

The Provincial Transport Department has deployed emergency road maintenance teams to affected areas.

Joburg Emergency Services is warning people against crossing flooded bridges.

It’s also asking residents to be vigilant.

“No major incidents have been reported overnight,” said Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.

“Most of our roads in most parts of the city are wet and slippery. We continue to encourage motorists to keep a safe following distance and try and avoid crossing flooded roads and bridges.”
