Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane says there will be no panic buys in the upcoming January transfer window as their striker search continues.
Amakhosi have been linked with a host of forwards over the past few months within their squad revamp, but currently, only have Bonfils Caleb-Bimenyimana as their natural number nine at present.
Ashley du Preez and Khama Billiat who have both filled in the role in his injury absence over the past few weeks have been erratic with their form this season, which has seemingly put a priority on landing a new striker to add to the competition for the towering Burundi hitman.
Hungarian Bálint Bajner, who stands at over 1.9m tall is said to have joined the club on trial, along with left-footed central defender Bradley Cross, two positions Zwane has made no secret about wanting to bolster.
“We’re still hunting, but as I said before, we’re avoiding a situation of just bringing in players out of desperation,” Zwane said at The Village this week when asked about their striker search,
“This time around, we did our homework – and looked back as to how we brought in players, the way we want to play [now] and the way we want to play in the future. The game is evolving, so we can’t only think about now.
“So, we’re trying, by all means, to make sure, even now, when we bring in a player, we bring in a player that will come in and add value, so we scrutinise everything, we go deeper [than before].
“We want to know about the players’ attitude off-the-field, on the field, where he comes from, his family – these things count a lot in helping the player to come in and perform and give his best all the time.”
On whether they are looking towards reinforcing with domestic talent, or abroad, Zwane reiterated they are being patient to find the right quality player to improve their attacking options.
“We’ll keep looking, if we get something in January, we’ll go for it, if we can’t get then there’s nothing we can do,” he added. “As I said, we’re avoiding a situation, just to bring in players just for the sake of bringing in players – we just want to make sure that whoever comes in, is going to add value.”
