Riky Rick’s funeral was held in a private ceremony in Johannesburg on Tuesday, March 1. The hip-hop artist’s family and close friends all wore white in his honour. Bianca Naidoo paid moving tribute to her late husband, Riky Rick, while his father-in-law, Kumi Naidoo, recalled their last conversation.
The rapper’s friend and Legends Barber founder Sheldon Tatchell broke down in tears as he shared his fondest memories of their friendship that spilled over into business. He said they hit it off right away after meeting for the first time while he was giving the rapper his first haircut.

“He requested I came over and give him a haircut. We spoke endlessly about the things he has experienced but left me confused after the haircut. And he mentioned the word, ‘Too much, yo. Because he believed in my dreams and business goals, I could talk to him about anything, even if it was sports and intimate family things we might go through.”
Sheldon struggled to keep his tears back as he described how he gave Riky Rick one last haircut the day before the funeral. “I was honoured yesterday to give him his last haircut. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. I miss hearing the sound of his voice saying ‘It’s too much!’ but that voice will ever be engraved in my mind as I move forward and his legacy.”
