The winner of the 2022 Carling Black Label Cup will walk away with R1 million, Brand Director Arne Rust confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Each team was set to receive R100,000 for being involved in the process, while the top four would be granted R2-million each, Premier Soccer League (PSL) Chairman, Irvin Khoza said back in July at the launch of the newly formed competition.

Khoza also stated the winner would get R2-million, but R500,000 would be shared with a fan and another R500,000 for a charity of his/her choice.

Rust confirmed that the winner on Saturday, will, indeed pocket R1-million for their triumph, with AmaZulu and Mamelodi Sundowns opening the tournament and Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates facing off in the second game for places in the final.

“The winning team wins nothing less than a million rand, if that’s not something to play for then I don’t know. Everybody, the 16 teams of the PSL, have been paid for their participation for just putting their names in the hat,” Rust said on Tuesday.

“All the teams who win on matchday will win some money for their exploits, so that’s definitely something they’ll be looking for.

“I think the competitiveness in the teams at the moment, we have so many winners in there, we’ve got Chiefs coming off a win in the derby, we’ve got the Buccaneers who’ve just won their first trophy in a while. We’ve got AmaZulu on the up and Sundowns who are just a class act no matter where you put them.

“So you’ve got four winning teams and there can only be one winner, so this will be epic football – I think this is going to be one for the books.”

The gates will open at 07h00 on Saturday morning, with live events such as Costa Titch set for the supporters in the football extravaganza.
