Gauteng Premier Lesufi: Decision on e-tolls by year-end

Gauteng residents will know the fate of controversial e-tolls by the end of the year.

Premier Panyaza Lesufi says a revenue model will be formulated for how the province will pay the 30 percent Sanral debt.

But he says it won’t be easy.

Lesufi says this will be discussed in a future meeting with the Finance and Transport Ministers.

“By the 31st of December we will know whether the e-toll model is finally eradicated in Gauteng,” he said.

Lesufi said the education and health budgets won’t be compromised when paying the debt.

“We want to reject a notion flying all over that our commitment to pay the 30 percent means health and education will suffer.

“We want to assure our citizens that the budget to fight crime or to quality education won’t be compromised.”
