Stage 2 loadshedding continues all week

After a weekend free from Eskom’s rolling blackouts, the power utility hit South Africa with the notification that Stage 2 will continue all week.

Despite units at Kendal, Kusile, Matla and Tutuka returning to service, the failing state-owned entity says its under generation capacity and has no choice but to continue the incessant loadshedding.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 30 October, Eskom said Stage 2 will be implemented from 05h00 on Monday until 05h00 on Tuesday.

Thereafter, Stage loadshedding will be implemented during evening peaks on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Eskom will publish a further update on Wednesday afternoon or as soon as there are any significant changes.

Lower weekend demand reportedly made it possible for loadshedding to be suspended, and just when South Africans were getting used to life without the disruptive power cuts, Eskom reminded the country not to get too comfortable.

Last week Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said that government would be absorbing Eskom’s staggering debt of R400 billion.

One hopes that this means an end to loadshedding because it would mean Eskom’s financial crisis is resolved.
