Julius Malema changes tune on foreign employment?

After maintaining his controversial stance when it comes to immigration in South Africa, EFF leader Julius Malema appears to have a change of heart, and has called for foreign nationals to seek employment back home.

Led by Julius Malema, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) emerged as a notable opposition to the African National Congress (ANC) led government prior to the formation of the Government of National Unity. However, the 2024 General Elections revealed dwindling support for the leader of the red berets.

Although uncertain, some believe that this was a result of the Commander in Chief’s (CIC) stance on immigration in the country. While the poor and working class, who make up a significant chunk of the EFF supporters, expressed continued frustration at the rate of illegal immigration and its effects, their leader maintained an opposing stance, calling for a more Pan-Africanist approach.

In a sudden turn of events, the recent Siyabonga Rally held in Seshego, Limpopo saw the CIC highlighting the need to prioritise South African employment, as he cited the country’s staggering 66.5% youth unemployment rate.

With the 2026 local elections drawing closer, some have expressed scepticism at Julius’ sudden change of heart, and have credited it to a mere ploy for garnering votes.

We know anytime elections are near Julius malema will change his tone.we will never be fooled by this charlatans called Julius who keep changing his colour depending on how weather look like. No votes he will get from patriotic South African.

Local government elections are around the corner 2026, that’s why @Julius_S_Malema is flip flopping after he insulted South Africans and said “South Africans areazy good for nothings, who are jealous of foreigners” now he is changing tune. https://t.co/tmUu6ERFxR
