Chiefs Star Sends Rallying Cry To Teammates

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has insisted its time for the players to step up in the Soweto Derby and show everyone “what we are made of” on Saturday.

The Amakhosi youth product will experience his first derby after returning to Naturena ahead of the 2022/23 campaign from Stellenbosch FC.

However, things have not gone 100% smooth sailing for the Glamour Boys, with Chiefs entering the Soweto Derby on the back of three games without a win, while also dropping out of the MTN8 last weekend.

With Pirates heading into the game full on confidence, Kwinika has called on his teammates to step up on Saturday.

“I think we are preparing well as a team, taking into account where we come from and how disappointed we are, so I think now that also the boys understand it’s time for us to step up and showcase what we are made of after everything that has been said about us, the team, the crop of players,” he said during the pre-match media day.

“I think it’s within us to showcase why we are here representing the brand and I think we are in a good state.”

Kwinika, who was formerly known as Zitha Macheke before a name change, also opened up on his excitement ahead of his first derby as a player, having watched the game from stands as kid growing up.

“For me, having been there before, it’s a moment I’ve been waiting for and if I get an opportunity I’ll be happy, because growing up in the set-up, always going to the stadium to watch the Soweto Derby it’s one of the moments where you say, maybe it will come true,” he explained.
