Orlando Pirates wing-back Thabiso Monyane says the confidence is high to take the bragging rights in the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.

Monyane has emerged as one of the leading performers under Jose Riveiro since his appointment this season after not featuring in a single minute of the 2021/22 season.

The academy product has been a marauding figure down the right-flank offering energy and a major attacking threat in their preferred 3-4-2-1 formation with one goal and two assists in 10 games.

And at the age of 22 ahead of the first Soweto derby of his career. they come at the back of a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns and consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

“The Soweto derby is not about form and all that, it’s honestly about the pride you know, what the team wants and who wants it [more],” he said at their Marriot Bonvoy partnership launch this week.

“I feel like on the day, we are highly motivated, we want to win, we want to come out on top and we want to show the Buccaneers deserve to be happy.”

Monyane, who started his career as a forward has amassed 38 appearances for the Buccaneers first team, featuring as a left-wing, right-wing and right-back since his debut in August 2019.
