With Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies switching their focus to Morocco, where the 2022 edition of CAF Women’s Champions League will be taking place, Jerry Tshabalala and his troops have a point to prove that they are not the African Queens by a fluke.

The tournament will commence on Sunday, 30 October until Sunday 13 November 2022.

Banyana Ba Style are drawn in Group B alongside Bayelsa Queens of Nigeria, Wadi Degla from Egypt and TP Mazembe of DR Congo.

The Hollywoodbets Super League champions look shorn of genuine prestige and star quality – ready to defend their title in style.

“The good thing about this tournament is not like the previous one when went there,” Tshabalala told the media.

“This is the second edition the girls are well prepared and they know what to expect. So, this one is going to be much easier than the previous one.

“Based on the previous Champion’s League is going to be an easy one to motivate the girls. In fact, the girls are self-motivated in this one.

“There is a lot at stake as the defending champions. We need to prove that it wasn’t a fluke for us to become the first team to win the Champions League.”

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head coach Jerry Tshabalala and his troops face a tough test this afternoon when they take on tricky side Bloemfontein Celtic in the Hollywoodbets Super League at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale.

When asked if there might be changes in terms of their style of play going into the competition, Tshabalala said:

“When you look at the team, immediately after a couple of few games that we didn’t do well like a game against the UWC a lose away and a draw at home and a lose again against TUT was a wakeup call for us.

“So, maybe teams out clear might have studied us. But we believe in ourselves as we not going to change that much. It’s only a technical approach that we might change a bit.

“You know we are a team that likes to attack. But as a coach and technical team we realised inventing something new that will give us an opportunity to manoeuvre our opponents.”
