Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane admits his squad needs to be strong after several players were jeered by their own supporters at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Chiefs took the lead through Ashley du Preez as early as the seventh minute against TS Galaxy but the game turned on its head after the introduction of former Amakhosi captain Bernard Parker on the half-hour mark.
‘Die Hond’ netted his first goal for Galaxy a minute later before Junior Traore put them ahead before the break which sparked angry reactions from the stands as they walked out through the tunnel.
Yusuf Maart and Khama Billiat were also subjected to boos during the game as they struggled against the Rockets, with the Zimbabwean guilty of spurning several chances throughout the game.
Chiefs did manage to find an equaliser through a stunning Keagan Dolly free-kick, which the Rockets head coach Sead Ramovic questioned whether it was a legitimate foul or not – but Zwane feels his side played well and potentially deserved more for their efforts in the second half.
“The booing of players… look unfortunately we have supporters who are very very passionate, you know, who want to win – they want to brag as well about the club,” Zwane said in the post-match press conference at FNB Stadium after the 2-2 draw.
“The boys are doing their utmost best but unfortunately the results are not forthcoming and it’s one of those things where the boys need to be strong because they played very well.
“It’s only us again, we’re going to have to help our supporters to understand the game even much better by just taking our chances much better going forward and that time will come I have no doubt about it.”
Amakhosi now turn their attention to the MTN8 second leg semi-final against AmaZulu which will take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday (15h30)
