Two Kaizer Chiefs youngsters were named in the COSAFA U20 Qualifiers Team of the Tournament.
South Africa’s U20, coached by Kaizer Chiefs’ Reserves coach Vela Khumalo, finished in third place after beating Angola 4-2 on penalties on Sunday.
However, they missed out on qualifying for next year’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after losing their semi-final 2-1 to Mozambique, with only the two finalists booking their spots.
Zambia ended up winning the tournament thanks to a 1-0 win over Mozambique to claim their record-extending 12th title.
Zambia star Charles Mumba was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding displays in leading his side to the title, while his teammate, goalkeeper Jeban Tembo, won the Golden Glove. The Fair Play award went to South Africa.
The 2022 winners also have four players in the Team of the Tournament, while South Africa have two; namely Puso Dithejane and Mduduzi Shabalala.
