Fifteen out of the 16 participants of the CAF Champions League group stages were confirmed over the weekend after one or two shock results.
Mamelodi Sundowns won their tie by the biggest margin after thumping La Passe 8-1 and 7-0 over the two legs to progress.
Sadly, Cape Town City missed out, with last year’s semi-finalists Petro de Luanda proving too big of a hurdle. The Angolan giants beat City 4-0 on aggregate, with the Citizens now dropping down in the CAF Confederations Cup.
Record champions Al Ahly also progressed to the group stages after beating Monastir 4-0 on aggregate, thanks to a 3-0 home victory – however, Percy Tau was not part of the squad, as he is still trying to finalise the recovery from his latest injury.
Defending champions Wydad Athletic Club had work to do in the second leg after losing 2-1 at Rivers United from Nigeria in the first leg. But a dominant 6-0 win saw them book their ticket.
Meanwhile, five-time champions TP Mazembe were once again eliminated before the group stages after Ugandan side Vipers beat them on penalties.
Tanzanian treble winners Young Africans also stumbled before the group stages, losing 2-1 on aggregate to Al Hilal Omdurman from Sudan.
Below are all confirmed group stage teams:
