Chippa Stun Chiefs In Durban

Kaizer Chiefs missed the chance to go top of the DStv Premiership table after they were beaten 2-1 draw by Chippa United at almost full Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.

Unlike source Siyabonga Ngezane flung his head just before half time, to put the daylight for Chiefs fans who packed the venue also for himself after a few mistakes this season.

It was a deserved goal for Amakhosi as they were on top of the Chippa in the first half.

But they couldn’t increase in the second half as Siyethemba Sithebe, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, Keagan Dolly all ballooned the chances they had.

Bimenyimana had a goal ruled out for offside but it was also the same for Chippa, who had a goal chalked off for offside when Thabiso Lebitso thought he had scored.

However, as Chiefs dropped off, Chippa upped the ante. Chippa found the room on the left hand side and Siphelele Luthuli received a loose ball in the 54th minute inside the box and beat Brandon Pietersen hands down at the far post.

Roland Pfumbidzai scored a winner in the 90th minute to silence the crowd.

While Chiefs could not hand them the win, they are showing life under Zwane, as they were 14th early this month. But three wins on the bounce have seen them in the top half of the table.

The Soweto giants could not also hand their Kaizer Motaung a birthday gift in advance. Motaung is turning 78 on Sunday.

He founded the club in 1970, but it has not won a major trophy since 2015 moving away from his roots at Orlando Pirates.

They will hope to do well this coming weekend as they face AmaZulu in the MTN8 second semi final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. Chiefs though are on the slender disadvantage in that game as they conceded a goal at home.
