It takes courage for one to open up about alcohol and drug addiction. After all, it takes a solid will to call it quits amid your addiction. However, with several gigs on the cards and busy schedules actors across the globe have turned to alcohol and drugs to keep up with their busy schedules. No doubt the South African industry has not been spared from this. These celebrities also suffered from addictions like other famous people.

In the wake of their fame, a few South African celebrities have come clean about their journey to sobriety over the past years or so. Celebrities are a true inspiration to us, and opening up on their addictions and how they called it quits serves as a lesson to many. Let’s dive into celebrities who recently celebrated their soberness.

He has been sober for 17 years. The celebrated media personality left Mzansi stunned when he once opened up about his alcohol and drug addiction on Podcast and Chill. In the mix of things he also opened up about his women problems. Recently he took to Instagram to celebrate his journey of being sober.

He said: “This young man is 17 years sober, alcohol-free today…blessed and happy.”

Kabelo Mabalane

Mabalane recently celebrated 20 years of being clean and sober. The star inspired his Instagram followers with the testimony that he has been clean and sober for the past 20 years. Kabelo thanks Jesus for helping him overcome the struggle.

“Today 20 years ago, a ride like no other began. This journey has made me more realistic, I now believe in miracles. Thank you, Jesus. If I can do it, you can do it too,” he wrote.

Zoleka Mandela

This socialite celebrated herself after being sober for 12 years on the 11th of August, 2022. Zoleka Mandela detailed how she began drinking at thee young age of 9 and smoked her first cigarette at the age of 13. The earlier years of her life were full of partying and consuming lots of alcohol and drugs with friends.

“… Had my last cigarette in 2012 and my first one at the age of 13. I had my first drink at the age of 9 and my last one and the last cocaine binge at the age of 30. I’m so excited about celebrating my 12th year of SOBRIETY on the 11th of August, I literally can’t wait!!!”
