Royal AM goalkeeper Patrick Nyame has expressed his disappointment at SuperSport United for not checking up on him while he was fighting for his life in hospital.
Nyame has been in the hospital for over a week after he suffered a head injury against SuperSport in the DStv Premiership match on Wednesday last week.
The 36-year-old was left injured after SuperSport striker Bradley Grobler accidentally hit him with his knee when scoring the last goal of their 3-1 win in the final minute of the game.
He was taken off in the game and then rushed to the hospital in Pretoria, as he was struggling to breathe, and later even fell into a two-day coma, as confirmed by his club.
“It was bad and I went into a coma,” Nyame told iDiski Times.
“But now I’m better and now [I’m] in the ward, but I’m still weak. What happened, Grobler landed his knee on the back of my head and after that I passed out and the club’s doctors tried to bring my memories back, but they couldn’t. Then I went to the hospital, it then got worse there.
“I spent two days in a coma and doctors told me it has been two days ‘you have been sleeping’ and people still think it was a joke – no, it was not.”
While Nyame has been in hospital, club boss Shauwn ‘Ma’ Mkhize has been visiting him to see how he is. However, no one from SuperSport – officials or players – have come to check up on him in hospital, something that infuriated MaMkhize.
Nyame has also been left disappointed that no one from SuperSport came to find out about his health after the incident happened against them.
“No one from SupeSport has even come and checked on me or tried to send me a message,” said Nyame, who was emotional at that time.
“I know football is a competitive sport and no one goes to the match to hurt another, but when such an incident happens, at least check on that person. Today it can be me, tomorrow it can be someone from their side.”
Nyame says he won’t play again for Royal AM before the FIFA World Cup pause in November and December, but he insists he’ll be back when the league resumes towards the end of December.
“This will take me one month just to recover, so I think I’ll be back after the World Cup,” said Nyame who is the cousin of Cameroon and Lyon forward Karl Toko Ekambi.
Nyame has been a mainstay for Royal AM since he joined the club when it was still known as Royal Eagles in the 2017/18 season.
Last campaign, as Royal AM finished third on the table to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup, he featured in 32 matches in all competitions, keeping 11 clean sheets.
