Pitso Mosimane believes that Benni McCarthy’s appointment at Manchester United will not only open doors for the former Bafana Bafana striker, but for all South African coaches.

Mosimane, who has just taken over at Saudi Arabian club Al Ahli, celebrated his first win with his new club on Tuesday.

He recently spoke about McCarthy, being full of praise for the former Cape Town City and AmaZulu head coach, and said it was heartening to see so many South African coaches making in-roads around the world.

“I think if we look at the positive side of Benni,” Mosimane said recently.

“We know Benni is a coach. I think being there at Man United can be the easier passage to go to another team in the Premier League, or even the First Division in England is still good. He can get a gig there and in Scotland, he can also get a good team there because he is with Man United and he is Benni McCarthy.

“He can go to Portugal where he scored all the goals to win the UEFA Champions League. Now he is in that space. I look up to him as the guy who can open doors for us.

“Bradley Carnell is in the Major League Soccer. Good guy, I coached him with Bafana in 2017. I look up to him also as the guy who can open doors for us in the Major League Soccer.

“Fadlu is in Russia and maybe he can get a team in the division below after they see his work, an opportunity also there.

“So opportunities for all of us. I believe in the North African market, there is an opportunity for a South African coach after we have left there, because they know us in Morocco, they know us in Algeria, they know us in Tunisia.

“So there is an opportunity for our coaches to move. The question as we all said is, are they ready to do that? It’s not an easy way out there.”
