Heavyweight singer Sbu Noah was born Sibusiso Desmons Mthembu before fame and career carved a new name for him. He was born in Umlazi KwaZulu Natal province; he is one of the celebrities who have stories from rags to riches. Sbu has humble beginnings, but he is the epitome of hard work who paved the way for himself in the competitive gospel music industry.

Sbu studied for his primary and secondary school in the small town of Inanda in KwaZulu Natal. He passed his matric with flying colours and enrolled for tertiary education at a prestigious South African University. While doing his studies, Sbu encountered challenges as his mother, the breadwinner, fell ill, which affected their financial status as a family. However, he managed to pursue his academics, graduating with a degree in Anatomy.

A career in the gospel music industry

Having been raised in a Christian home Sbu was taught the theology and modalities of Christianity at a young age. Sbu developed singing when he was still a teenager and joined the praise and worship team of ‘My Fathers House Church’, where he sharpened his singing craft. He impressed the managers of Joyous Celebration with his signature melodic voice, and they gave him a chance to become a lead singer. Sbu grabbed the opportunities with both hands, dropping his hit song ‘Hallelujah Nkateko‘, which made waves in the gospel music genre.

In his music career of less than a decade, Sbu Noah has received several nominations, capped with an award he won in 2019.
