Ex-Chippa coach one win away from sealing FC Platinum’s fourth title on the trot

Ex-Chippa United coach Norman Mapeza is one win away from sealing FC Platinum’s fourth Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.

With four games remaining before the curtain goes down, the platinum miners are eleven points ahead of Dynamos, who are second on the log standings.

In 30 matches, Mapeza and his men collected 67 points and have a very healthy goal difference, 34, that could easily count as an extra point if they drop points in this home stretch.

They are riding on a 17-match unbeaten run where they conceded five times.

Pure Platinum Play are also angling to keep the momentum in the Chibuku Super Cup, where they are again the natural favourites to win the title.

Until this point, they have been defeated three times by Bulawayo Chiefs Herentals and Ngezi Platinum, with a total of 11 goals coached.

Sadly, goals per season continue to dwindle each year, with Dynamos’ 2010 record of 79 goals remaining a cut above the rest.

FC Platinum have so far raked in 45 goals, but they are taking comfort from the fact that they have been steely in defence.

MAPEZA NOT CONCERNED

Coach Mapeza, though, is not concerned about records, saying his eyes are fixated on winning the remaining matches.

“We are for aiming results in these finals matches just good results. That’s what we are playing for. I’m not worried about the margins; all I hope for is winning,” Mapeza said.

“Right now, there is pressure. Teams want to prove a point against us, so we are aiming at good results only. No need to be stylish in our approach. The final games are always tough and emotional.”

Goalkeeper Wallace Magalane has kept 14 clean sheets in 17 matches and is touted to claim the goalkeeper of the season award should he maintain the good run.
