The one thing Njabulo Blom craves for at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs utility player Njabulo Blom has admitted that he craves his first goal in the professional ranks with Amakhosi.

Blom spoke to Chiefs’ website ahead of the DStv Premiership encounter against Stellenbosch on Sunday.

VERSATILITY

The versatile player commented on what he felt about being switched from right-back to defensive midfielder.

“I think every player has ambitions to score a goal. It’s a great feeling to see my teammates score, so I just imagine how great it would feel if I scored a goal,” he said.

“I try to put myself I good positions in games but, obviously, I must also respect my position, respect the roles that the coach gives me… but it’s something that I’m looking forward to.”

The 22-year-old insisted he was willing to play in any position which coach Arthur Zwane asks him to.

“Last season, the coach played me as a right-back and then coach Zwane said he wanted to play me in midfield, so I think it’s better to adapt quickly as a player and focus on the position you are playing,” Blom said.

“For me, I think it’s kind of great to play as a ‘6’ (defensive midfielder) but I also enjoy playing as a right-back. I enjoy both positions.”

Blom feels Chiefs’ first away 2-1 win over Swallows in a midweek clash gives Amakhosi the springboard for better results.

The versatile player admitted that Stellenbosch were tough customers who use width to great effect.

“We’ll go there knowing very well that they are a hard team to play against. They have quick, nippy players. They like to use their wing-backs who are good at crossing the ball. Overall, they are a good team. Their midfielders are comfortable on the ball and strong in every department,” he said.

EXPECTING STELLIES REACTION

The last time the two teams met in the MTN8 quarterfinal, Chiefs prevailed.

Blom is mindful of that result in terms of how Steve Barker’s men will react.

“I think they will be motivated after we beat them in the MTN8 quarterfinals, so we expect them to try and come at us,” he added.

Chiefs are in position five with 14 points, one point in front of Stellenbosch from nine games each on the log table.
