Kaizer Chiefs winger Keagan Dolly has needed to make due with a place on the bench because of competition in the squad, according to head coach Arthur Zwane.

The 29-year-old, who came off the bench to secure a 1-1 draw for Chiefs against AmaZulu in their first leg MTN8 semi-final this weekend has not been in the starting eleven for three of the last four games in all competitions.

While his from has been indifferent in the 2022/23 campaign, his status as one of the most highly-rated attackers in the league has brought about some questions as Ashley du Preez and Kgaoelo Sekgota have been preferred in recent weeks.

“It boils down to competition in the squad right now,” Zwane said about the Bafana winger being on the bench of late.

“Ashley, obviously apart from missing the opportunities, he’s been doing very well, for the fact he got in those positions, but unfortunately he couldn’t take them but he’ll come right.

“Sekgota has been doing very well, that’s why the two of them were called up to the national team, so there’s competition for places.”

Dolly will be aiming for a start when Chiefs return to league action this evening against Soweto rivals Swallows FC at the Dobsonville Stadium.
