Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau has been named in the Confederation of African Football [CAF] Team of the Decade.

Tau has been rewarded for the role he played in the Africa’s most prestigous interclub competition in the past ten years.

Lion of Judah as he’s affectionately known in the football fraternity, formed part of the Mamelodi Sundowns team that won the CAF Champions League in 2016.

Sundowns beat Egyptian giants Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate in the final.

After an impressive showing with Masandawana, it was inevitable that Tau would attract interest from big European leagues.

The 28-year old attacker sealed a move to the English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018.

Tau found it tough to break into the Brighton’s match day squad and he was sent out on loan to Club Brugge and Anderlecht in Belgium.

The SA attacker played in the UEFA Champions League in Brugge’s colours and featured against Real Madrid and PSG.

However, the goal-poacher surprisingly pulled the plug on his time in Europe to join Al Ahly, coached by Pitso Mosimane, who has since left the club, citing a fallout with the club’s hierarchy.

Tau also reached the Champions League final with Al Ahly.

But the Cairo giants lost to Wydad Casablanca earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat and Sundowns goalkeeper Dennis Onyango have also made the cut for the CAF’s team of the decade.

The duo were also part of the Brazilians team that joined the Buccaneers in being the only two teams to have won Champions League in South Africa.

Onyango and Billiat have been the regulars in the continental competitions with the Chloorkop-based side.

The Zimbabwean also featured in the Champions League with Chiefs and reached the final with Amakhosi where they subsequently lost to Al Ahly in 2021.
