Matlou’s Red Card From Gomes Explained

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou received a red card after full-time and will be suspended for their next fixture despite not playing against AmaZulu.

Matlou received a straight red card after the 1-1 draw in their first leg MTN8 semi-final against AmaZulu, which was bizarre considering he wasn’t on the pitch.

It was one of four red cards referee Victor Gomes dished out on the day after Veluyeke Zulu, Gabadinho Mhango – who was on the bench at the time, Usuthu goalkeeper coach Johan Abselon.

iDiski Times were informed after the game that Matlou was punished by Gomes for ‘entering the field of play’ after the notable fracas on the pitch erupted at the full-time whistle.

A visibly incensed Usuthu head coach Brandon Truter questioned some of the decisions in the post-match press conference stating; “When Victor is in charge, there is always spectacle around, always.”

All four are now expected to miss two games respectively for receiving red cards – meaning they will all likely to be available for the second leg on 23 October.
