Former Sekhukune United and Polokwane City attacking midfielder Walter Musona continued with his impressive renaissance in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after notching a brace in FC Platinum’s 3-2 win over Highlanders on Sunday.

Musona is thriving under Norman Mapeza following a rather below-par stint at Sekhukune United, where he was deemed excess baggage after seven months at the club.

However, he is having his best season as one of the club’s key players as they charge towards the fourth league title on the bounce.

MUSONA’S WORDS

“It’s all because of hard work and how the coach has allowed me to express myself on the pitch,” Musona told FARPost.

“I’m confident more can be achieved with this level of hard work and motivation from the coach [Norman Mapeza]. I give credit to the coach and my teammates.”

The 26-year-old, who is the brother to former Kaizer Chiefs Marksman Knowledge Musona, struck a brace to bring Highlanders’ sterling home record to a screaming halt.

The win stretched their unbeaten run to 16 games while maintaining their ten-point cushion ahead of their closest rivals, Chicken Inn.

Musona thrust the platinum miners ahead in the first half from a penalty before Panashe Mutimbanyoka doubled the scores moments after the half-time break.

Stanley Ngala and Washington Navaya scored to restore parity for Baltemar Brito’s men.

Unfortunately, their relief was short-lived as Musona grabbed a last-gasp goal for the defending champions from a free kick taken a few yards from the box.

With nine goals to his name, the former Polokwane City player is a strong contender for a place among the season’s best 11.

Five games remain before the season ends, and FC Platinum aims to keep their unbeaten to set a new record.

They now shift focus to the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals, where they face Harare-based club Herentals.
