Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns shared the spoils in their MTN8 semi-final first leg at a sold out Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
The two sides met in a highly-anticipated clash in Orlando and it was a largely even affair without either side being able to find a breakthrough.
The excitement was palpable three hours before kickoff as the streets of Orlando in the blistering heat was buzzing as both sets of fans made their way through to the iconic arena.
And despite no goals they were treated to real entertainment with arguably two of the best squad in South African football on display – with each player on the ball and every substitute made screaming quality.
Philip Ndlondlo who was making his debut for the Buccaneers and one to remember although their were some nervy moments while Sundowns midfield of Andile Jali, Teboho Mokoena, Neo Maema and Themba Zwane were made to grind for sniff in goal.
While there was enterprising attacking display Richard Ofori hardly needed to make a notable save but Ronwen Williams had a couple as the Soweto giants were clearly spurned by the home support.
With the final half hour Kermit Erasmus, who terminated his contract with Sundowns to return to Mayfair on a free transfer was introduced to a rapturous applause in in the 80th minute he nearly broke the deadlock with a long range effort which was tipped over the post by Williams.
However, in the end it remained goalless, leaving the tie evenly poised ahead of the second leg on 22 October.
