Deadbeat Father Barred from Inheriting Deceased Son’s R716,000 Estate

A father who abandoned his financial and paternal duties decades ago has been legally blocked from claiming a share of his late son’s inheritance.

The court ruled that the absent father will not receive a single cent from the R716,000 estate of his son, who tragically passed away at the age of 29.

According to court records, the man had not been a part of his son’s life since the child was just one year old. Despite failing to provide emotional or financial support for 28 years, the father came forward after his son’s death, expecting a windfall from the deceased’s estate.

The court took a firm stance against the claim, emphasising that a parent cannot abandon their parental responsibilities throughout a child’s life and then expect to benefit financially from their death.

The entire R716,000 estate will be distributed without the biological father receiving any share.
