Durban City cruise into CAF Confederation Cup group stage

Durban City are through to the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 3-0 win away to AS Port Louis on Sunday.

On aggregate, Durban City won the tie 6-1 after beating the same opponents 3-1 in the first leg which was played at Moses Mabhida Stadium last week.

DURBAN CITY ADVANCE TO CAF CONFEDERATION CUP GROUP STAGE

On the day, Durban City played with intent and their approach was attack-mind unlike trying to sit back and protect their lead.

Eric Tinkler’s men took the lead through Gaston Sirino in the 12th minute to make things difficult for AS Port Louis.

Haashim Domingo then made it 2-0 for Durban City in the 25th minute to ease the pressure on his team.

Tinkler made several changes at half-time with the likes of Ethan Brooks and Luphumlo Sifumba getting a run.

It did not take for Brooks to make his presence felt as he opened his account for the club in the 52nd minute.

That was Durban City‘s third, and that stage, AS Port Louis knew there were never going to get the desired result.

The Citizens are the second PSL team to qualify for the group stage of a CAF inter-club competition this season.

Orlando Pirates are the only other team to have advanced. They are in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

HOW THE CITIZENS LINED UP AGAINST AS PORT LOUIS

Durban City starting XI: Frederick Asare, Bandile Shandu, John Mokone, Mfanafuthi Mkhize, Siphamandla Ncanana, Brooklyn Poggenpoel, Kyle Jurgens, Haashim Domingo, Gaston Sirino, Jean Lwamba.
