Pirates Boss Discusses Potential Mabena Signing

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has remained coy on the potential signing of Ndumiso Mabena ahead of their MTN8 semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates enjoyed a deadline day to remember with the signings of Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo from Marumo Gallants, Sipho Chaine from Chippa United and Kermit Erasmus on a free transfer after he parted ways with Masandawana in the final hours of the window.

And they could add even further firepower now with veteran forward Mabena, who’s been training with the club over the past few weeks – but Riveiro admits it won’t be solely up to him to decide.

“About Mabena, he’s training with us the last six or seven training [sessions] perhaps,” Riveiro confirmed in the pre-match press conference ahead of facing Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Let’s see what happens in the future and what the management decides on the future of Mabena in the team.”

On the team news front, the Spaniard, who confirmed their latest signings are training and available for selection refused to entertain those who might not be available for the first leg semi-final at Orlando Stadium.

“I’m not the one who has to speak about the injured players, it’s not my role to make updates about injuries – I think we have a fantastic situation at the moment in the squad,” he stated,

The Soweto giants host the reigning champions on Saturday afternoon at Orlando Stadium (15h30).
