The South African Police Service has opened applications for 5,500 police trainee posts as part of its latest nationwide recruitment drive.

The official SAPS eRecruitment portal lists 5,500 posts under reference TRA26/27, with successful candidates set to receive a monthly stipend of R5,000 during training.

According to TimesLIVE, the recruitment drive is aimed at strengthening policing capacity across the country.

Who Can Apply?

The official SAPS vacancy notice states that applicants must be South African citizens and be between 18 and 35 years old by the closing date.

Candidates must also be physically, medically and mentally fit for appointment.

SAPS says applicants will be required to undergo a physical and medical examination, while the recruitment process also includes screening and verification requirements.

The police service warns applicants to use its official recruitment channels and remain alert to bogus advertisements. Its careers page specifically cautions jobseekers about fake SAPS traineeship and vacancy notices.

Training Prepares Recruits for Police Work

SAPS says new recruits undergo the Basic Police Development Learning Programme after joining the service.

The official programme information states that recruits enter into a 24-month agreement with SAPS while completing their development programme. The training is designed to equip new officers with legal and policing skills needed to protect communities and carry out police duties.

Training takes place at accredited SAPS academies.

Applications Must Be Submitted Online

SAPS now uses an electronic recruitment system for trainee applications.

The official eRecruitment portal allows applicants to register, create a profile, browse available vacancies and submit applications online.

SAPS introduced the online recruitment system to streamline applications and improve the integrity and efficiency of the process.

Prospective applicants should use only the official SAPS website and eRecruitment portal when applying.
