“You are not American” Thuso Mbedu called out for her fake American accent in recent interview (watch video)

The sudden American accent of Thuso Mbedu has recently drawn attention. To promote her new movie with Viola Davis, The Woman King star has been appearing in interviews and magazine covers. While some South Africans have praised the actress and her achievements, others have noted how off-putting the actress’s fake American accent is to them.

When attempting to praise Thuso Mbedu on Twitter, a user added that they had watched the interviews but were turned off by her fake American accent. The troll warned Thuso not to lose her South African accent, and he believes she must remain authentic. She clapped back in response, and Thuso retorted that they had no idea what they were talking about. This wasn’t the first time Thuso had been reprimanded for having an American accent. After the underground railroad was a success, Thuso made numerous TV talk show appearances. Thuso reacted to the trolls on Instagram with laughter. She assured them there would be more; this was just a trial run. She said this because she was tired of the constant bullying she continuously receives.

Thuso acknowledged that many South Africans have remarked on her accent and reassured them that what they are hearing is simply a result of the kind of people she associates with. She stated that she doesn’t care if they continue to make fun of her. In America, Thuso Mbedu has accomplished some incredible things. The International Women of Power Awards named her a woman of power.

Many South Africans criticize her for her accent because, according to them, it sounds like Thuso is embarrassed to be from South Africa. It saddens them that they believe she is losing her authenticity. Others added that, given her current course, she would eventually fight people who refer to her as a South African because she desperately wants to be an American.

However, it appears that Thuso is unconcerned because she is living the American dream. Recently, Thuso posted a photo of herself in an R82 000 outfit by international designer Christian Dior on Instagram. Thuso Mbedu is undoubtedly the woman of the moment as she is building a successful international career and leading the life of her dreams. The actress is certainly reaping the rewards of her labour—from winning international awards for her work in Underground Railroad to starring in the worldwide smash hit The Woman King. The South African appears to be floating on success and significant victories.
