Why Prophet Mboro returns to TV after 11 years hiatus

Prophet Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng, founder of the Incredible Happenings Ministry, says his return to television after years away from the screen will give him a platform to preach the gospel, tackle social ills and restore hope to people battling difficult circumstances.

Motsoeneng, popularly known as Prophet Mboro, is returning to Soweto TV after 11 years break with a new programme that will combine preaching, worship, entertainment and community outreach.

The programme, which premiered on Sunday, October 4, 2026, will air from 7pm to 8pm. Most episodes will be pre-recorded, although arrangements will be made for selected broadcasts to go live.

Speaking to Africa Daily, Motsoeneng said negotiations with the station began on September 24, with an agreement reached on September 30. He said the contract did not specify an end date for the programme.

Reflecting on his previous television career, the clergyman said he stepped away because the pressure surrounding his ministry and growing public profile had become overwhelming.

“My enemies would pay for my content to be challenged because it was extraordinary. They would write to Soweto TV demanding that I be removed,” he said.

Motsoeneng said the station’s head at the time, stood by him despite the complaints.

“He would say, ‘As long as he pays and is not violating any ICASA code of conduct, I am going to keep him on the station,’” he recalled.

The bible-puncher said he eventually needed time away from television to reconnect with God and concentrate on his local church.

“But I needed a break. It was too much. I needed to seek God and focus on my local church,” he said.

Motsoeneng also claimed that several cases had been opened against him but were later withdrawn when he went to the police station to enquire about them. He attributed the opposition he faced to the impact of his ministry, although he did not provide further details about the cases.

Despite his absence from television, he said he never abandoned his calling.

“However, I realised that I had never really stopped. I had only taken a break from television,” he said.

The returning programme will focus on issues affecting communities, including gender-based violence, child abuse, crime, bullying and mental health struggles.

Motsoeneng said he wanted the programme to reach victims of abuse and work alongside non-governmental organisations, civil movements and institutions that assist vulnerable people.

“We will reach out to victims, pray with them, comfort them and work with NGOs, civil movements and institutions that support victims of abuse,” he said.

He said the programme would also offer spiritual support to people experiencing suicidal thoughts or feeling pressured into committing crimes.

The popular man of the cloth added that he wanted to support crime fighters through prayer, faith and other forms of assistance.

“Above all, our main mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and deliver the message of salvation through Christ. We want to bring people to the message of the cross and restore their hope and faith in God,” he said.

The programme will also address spiritual concerns raised by viewers, including beliefs about evil spirits and tokoloshes, which Motsoeneng said some people associate with disturbances in their homes and yards.

He said his intention was not only to pray for people but also to teach them to rely on their own faith.

“I also want to empower people to do great things through their own faith, teach them how to pray for themselves, find solutions to their problems, cast out demons and stand against evil through the Word of God,” he said.

Beyond preaching, Motsoeneng plans to revive the community outreach initiatives associated with his previous television appearances.

He said these initiatives previously included building houses for disadvantaged people and running social upliftment programmes aimed at improving people’s social, economic, financial and spiritual circumstances.

The ministry also intends to assist communities affected by disasters.

Motsoeneng said the programme would retain the elements that made his previous television appearances distinctive, including worship, music and dancing, while giving viewers updates about his life and ministry.

He also recalled that thousands of people would touch their television screens while watching him preach, with some reporting that they had experienced healing and deliverance.

According to Motsoeneng, the programme will provide an opportunity for people who cannot regularly attend church to participate in worship and engage with his ministry from their homes.

The prophet said he was excited about returning because people had continued to recognise and remember him despite his prolonged absence from television.

“Many people did not know where to find me, but now they will be able to watch me again, attend my church services and participate in my outreach programmes,” he said.

For Motsoeneng, the return is an opportunity to reconnect with his audience while expanding the reach of his ministry.

“I will be able to continue doing what God has called me to do. This return shows that I am irreplaceable,” he said.
