Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he opted to play friendlies matches against Sierra Leonne and Botswana during the international break.

Broos says they are aiming to regain their confidence after suffering back-to-back defeats. They lost against World champions France then lost to Morocco.

Secondly, Broos is preparing for a clash against Liberia in March next year for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

According to Broos, Sierra Leone was a perfect opponent because they play a similar brand of football like Liberia.

Therefore, playing Sierra Leone will give them an idea on what to expect come March. The interesting part is they will be playing two games few days apart.

BROOS EXPLAINS…

“Now it’s focus on those two games [against Liberia],” Broos told the media.

“Why against Sierra Leone? Why against Botswana? First of all, we are not playing against top teams of Africa, they are good teams, but not top teams.

“We did it before, with France and I think now it’s the moment to regain a little bit of confidence for ourselves, but also from outside.

“Secondly, the team of Sierra Leone is a little bit same type of team like Liberia. We have those two very important games in March, so I think the game against Sierra Leone will be a good preparation for those games already.

“The game against Botswana like I said before, I like to have two friendly games in September, so I have it. We have to try now to win those two games,” added Broos.

Commenting on new faces in the squad, Broos revealed that they will be given opportunity to showcase their talent on the pitch.

He also mentioned that all the 23 players will get a chance to play in the friendly matches.

“I know that there are some changes in the team, there are some new players, so I hope they are there to show me what I think they can show me,” he said.

“I hope there will be players that increase the quality in our team and that there will be players who fill in the lack we have in some positions.

“Those friendly games are very important, I will give to all the players a time to play. I will try to have a team against Sierra Leone.

“And I will try to have another team against Botswana so that every player has the opportunity to show himself.

“That’s the goal of those two friendly games, it’s the preparation for the games in March, the very two important games against Liberia,” Broos added.

Bafana Bafana will be in action on Saturday against Sierra Leone then take on Botswana on Tuesday, 27 September. Both matches will be played at FNB Stadium and they kickoff at 3pm.
