Bafana Bafana team doctor Tshepo Molobi has provided injury updates ahead of friendly internationals against Sierra Leone and Botswana.

Hugo Broos’ side will be without two of their key players due to several injuries.

The two are defender Terrence Mashego and striker Lyle Foster, who are reported to have arrived at the camp with prior injuries.

As the national team’s standard procedure, the duo had to present themselves at the camp in order to be examined for a decision to be taken thereafter.

South Africa will lock horns with Sierra Leone on September 24 and Botswana on September 27. Both matches will take place at the FNB Stadium with the kick-off scheduled for 15:00.

DOCTOR’s UPDATE…

“With regards to Terrence, he sustained an injury prior to the Bafana camp,” Molobi told the SAFA media department.

“As a standard procedure even with a case where a player is injured he presents himself to the national team for assessment and investigations.

“And based on those a decision is then taken whether to release the player or to keep him within the camp

“So, with regards to that, he has not trained at all since his arrival while we were still investigating. On Wednesday we received a scan to confirm that indeed he has sustained an injury on his left thigh.

“In the end we had to release him from the camp to his club’s medical team who have been involved and for him to continue with treatment moving forward.”

 MOLOBI ON FOSTER INJURY

“These are very similar cases in terms of how they actually happened. He also got injured prior to the camp but also presented himself.

“The feeling was let’s send him for a scan and that was done. The scan revealed that he will not be able to continue with the camp so he also been released from the camp.

“What was important for us as the medical team as much as they arrived with prior injuries was to make sure that we do not further exacerbate their injuries. So we excluded them from training since arrival.”
