Bafana star Makhanya crowned Player of the Month in Scotland
Olwethu Makhanya is making a name for himself in Glasgow.
The Bafana Bafana defender has been named Player of the Month in the Scottish top flight. The award recognises his impressive displays for Rangers.
It’s a major honour. It also comes at a good time for the centre-back, who has since earned his place in Pitso Mosimane’s national team setup. Makhanya kept his reaction humble.
“I’m pleased to have been able to contribute to the team, and I’m grateful to the supporters for the backing they have given me,” he said.
His focus is already on what comes next. “I want to keep working hard, keep improving and help the team get the results we want.”
South African football has been watching its defenders attract European attention. Makhanya is proof the move can pay off quickly.
His award comes amid rumours that he has attracted interest in Europe’s big leagues like the Spanish La Liga and English Premiership.
