New Marothi alert: Josias Moleele takes over role on ‘Skeem Saam’

There is a new face behind one of Skeem Saam’s familiar characters, with actor Josias Moleele stepping into the role of Marothi Maphuthuma.

Josias will make his debut as the new Marothi on 15 October 2026, following the recasting of the role previously played by Macks Senatla.

According to the production, Macks will unfortunately not return to the popular SABC1 drama as Marothi. The role was recast due to personal reasons and his availability for filming.

The change marks the end of Senatla’s run as the character, with the production acknowledging the impact he made during his time on the show.

“Macks has made a meaningful contribution to Skeem Saam over the years. His portrayal of Marothi resonated deeply with viewers, and we are grateful for the distinct personality and presence he brought to the character,” said Yvonne Siphuka, PR Manager.

Macks Senatla will unfortunately not return as Marothi Maphuthuma, as the role has been recast, with Josias Moleele stepping in to play Marothi.

Josias Moleele takes over as Marothi

With Macks’s departure, Josias now takes on the responsibility of bringing Marothi Maphuthuma to life.

While recasting an established character can be a significant change for a long-running television drama, Skeem Saam has assured viewers that Marothi will continue to be part of the show’s storylines.

Josias’s arrival is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the character as he takes over from Macks.

For viewers who have followed Macks’s portrayal of Marothi, the transition will undoubtedly be noticeable. However, the production has expressed its appreciation for the actor’s contribution and the mark he left on the character.
