Royal AM president Shauwn Mkhize has opened up on the exit of co-coach Dan Malesela after he rejoined Marumo Gallants this week.
This publication reported about Malesela’s resignation last week already, but Mkhize initially dismissed the news, saying her co-coach had not resigned and was sick.
However, on Tuesday Malesela was announced as new Gallants coach, with his new club stating he “joins as a free agent”.
The news were now confirmed by Mkhize, who said both sides parted amicably after Malesela told her about his struggles with regards to co-coaching.
“I think for coach Dan it was all about him not being happy with co-coaching because he felt like his brand was getting exposed, he was not able to take the credit as Dan Malesela as a coach,” she told iDiski Times.

“Everything that happened at Royal AM was through all the coaches, he felt like his name was not going to grow.
“Dan loves Royal AM, because he came to us. We didn’t go looking for him, he came to us, he said he loves the club. He came to us and he said he’d like to join.
“When he came in considering his ambition, he came in and was happy to work even though there were two coaches that were already in the club.”
Mkhize also confirmed that the club will continue with Khabo Zondo and Abram Nteo and not be on the hunt for a new coach after Malesela’s departure.
“Royal AM loves stability and we don’t want to chop and change coaches because we don’t want to change the philosophy and the identity of the club,” she added.
“Because it’s not easy to adjust the identity of the club. So we will stick to the coaches we have and we’ll move forward.”
Royal AM started the new campaign with four wins, three draws and just one defeat, while also booking their spot in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederations Cup.
