Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has been forced into making a third change to his squad with Terrence Mashego being replaced by Siyanda Msani.
Mashego, 25, who completed a reported R10-million switch from Cape Town City to Mamelodi Sundowns is said to have suffered an injury on his debut for the club on Sunday.
The highly-rated left-back has now been allowed to leave the national team camp and replaced by the Richards Bay talent, who’s on loan from Masandawana for the 2022/23 season.
“He sustained an injury prior to joining the Bafana camp and as a standard procedure, when a player is injured, he presents himself to the national team for assessment and a decision is made whether to keep the player or release him from the camp,” Doctor Tshepo Molobi confirmed to SAFA media.
“So he’s not trained since arrival, whilst we were waiting for radiological investigations to actually confirm our diagnostic suspicions, so we secured the scan on Wednesday morning to confirm the left thigh injury.
“We have now released him from camp and in the care of his club medical team who have been informed where he will continue his treatment going forward.”
Mashego becomes the third player to drop out of the original squad after Thibang Phete was replaced by Siyanda Xulu while Ashley du Preez replaced Westerlo striker Lyle Foster.
South Africa face Sierra Leone on Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium before their clash against Botswana at the same venue three days later – both games are scheduled for 15h00.
