Bafana Bafana skipper Ronwen Williams has welcomed the return of winger Themba Zwane to the country’s national team following a long exile.

In a surprise move last week, the Mamelodi Sundowns star player was included in coach Hugo Broos’ 23-man squad set to play friendly internationals against Sierra Leone and Botswana.

The 33-year-old footballer made his Bafana debut back in 2014 during their goalless draw with New Zealand in an international friendly.

Former Bafana coach Gordon Igesund handed Zwane his first international taste at the age of 24.

Broos’ men will play Sierra Leone on September 24 and Botswana on September 27, with both matches taking place at the FNB Stadium with the kick-off set for 15:00 in the afternoon.

Themba Zwane has revealed that the Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches  Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena told the players at half-time of their league game against Golden Arrows to inspire them to victory.

“It’s wonderful to see Zwane back in the Bafana Bafana set-up. He is a good player who has achieved so much in his football career,” Williams told SAFA’s media officer.

“You know, to see him still going strong after everything that he has achieved shows the quality and mentality that he has got.”

The ex-SuperSport United captain reckons that the young players will learn a thing or two from his teammate, given his extensive experience of the beautiful game.

“The guys will learn so much from him because he has played at the highest level, and we played together at the AFCON 2019. And we went to the last eight together, so there is a lot of history between us and how to be playing for the same team as well,” he added.

“Honestly speaking, he is one of the best players in our league for the longest time. So, it’s good to have him here.”

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has thrown a challenge to national team returnee Themba Zwane.

Meanwhile, the Belgian mentor noted that Zwane had what Bafana needed, and he expect him to bring it to the national team.

“I know what he can do. I have seen him at Sundowns. He has what we need, so it’s up to him,” said Broos on the day of the squad announcement.
