Cape Town International Network Expands with Another New Flight

Posted on October 6, 2026

Airlink has announced another new flight from Cape Town, this time a domestic service to Johannesburg’s Lanseria International Airport.

The airline will begin operating the route from 4 December 2026, initially with two daily return flights between Cape Town International Airport and Lanseria. The service will be Airlink’s first scheduled domestic operation to Lanseria.

The new connection will give passengers travelling between Cape Town and Gauteng an alternative to O.R. Tambo International Airport, while also providing more convenient access to communities and businesses in western Gauteng and the North West province. Airlink said travel options between Cape Town and Lanseria have been limited, with FlySafair currently being the only carrier to operate the route. The new service will complement Airlink’s existing Cape Town-O.R. Tambo flights.

Airlink’s New Cape Town-Lanseria Flights

The route will be operated using Airlink’s 98-seat Embraer E190. As with Airlink’s other Embraer aircraft, its two-by-two cabin configuration means passengers have either a window or aisle seat, with no middle seats.

From 4 December, Airlink’s first Cape Town-Lanseria flight will depart at 09:20 and arrive at 11:35. The return flight will leave Lanseria at 13:00, arriving in Cape Town at 15:25. A second daily service will depart Cape Town at 13:30 and arrive at Lanseria at 15:45. The return flight will leave Lanseria at 09:10 and arrive in Cape Town at 11:35.

Airlink will increase the frequency to four daily return flights from 22 March 2027, although the updated schedule will be released closer to the date.

Cape Town’s Growing Connectivity

The new Lanseria service comes as Cape Town continues to see its air connectivity expand, with several new and increased services introduced during 2026.

LATAM launched the first-ever direct service between Cape Town and SĂŁo Paulo in July, connecting the Mother City with South America. Emirates has also increased its Cape Town-Dubai operation, while Ethiopian Airlines has expanded its service between Cape Town and Addis Ababa.

Airlink has also added to the growth, with its direct Cape Town-Mauritius service recently launched and its first Cape Town-Zanzibar service set to begin this month.

According to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), the upcoming 2026/27 peak season is expected to bring approximately 250,000 additional two-way international seats through Cape Town International Airport, representing a 12% increase in international capacity.
