Ramaphosa in Egypt for AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting

President Cyril Ramaphosa is in El-Alamein, Egypt, where he is leading the Southern African Development Community’s participation in the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting today, Sunday.

Ramaphosa arrived in Egypt on Saturday evening in his capacity as SADC chairperson. The meeting brings together AU leaders, regional economic communities, regional mechanisms and development partners.

Discussions are focused on continental integration, the implementation of Agenda 2063, the African Continental Free Trade Area, water and sanitation infrastructure, and conflict prevention and early-warning mechanisms.

On the sidelines, Ramaphosa held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on political and economic relations, including trade and investment. Ramaphosa also invited el-Sisi to undertake a state visit to South Africa.

Ramaphosa is accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola and Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau. SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi is also attending the meeting.
