Masilela Issues Vilakazi Challenge At Chiefs: “He Needs To Grow Up”
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela believes Mfundo Vilakazi must raise his game if he wants to become a key player for Amakhosi.
The 20-year-old has been given more opportunities this season after spending the past two years around the Chiefs senior squad. However, Masilela feels Vilakazi still needs to mature, particularly when it comes to his decision-making and finishing.
“When I look at the list of Kaizer Chiefs youngsters, I think they are good for the future,” Masilela said on the Soccerbeat Podcast.
But the former Bafana Bafana left-back agrees with coach Fernando Da Cruz that Chiefs’ attack currently lacks maturity.
“The coach said their attack lacks maturity, and lack of maturity leads to inconsistency. This is what I have seen from the team,” Masilela said.
He believes the problem is particularly evident in the final third.
“Inconsistency in terms of form and decision-making, because the final third is not like any other part of the field. That’s where you need quality and you need to make good decisions.”
Masilela then singled out Vilakazi for special attention.
“Vilakazi is taking shots from everywhere but only has one goal, and it’s not even a cracker,” he said.
“For me, it shows the boy still lacks maturity, and he has been given huge support by the coach.”
Masilela believes the youngster now needs to make the most of his opportunities.
“I hope he can grab the chance,” he added.
With Chiefs continuing to rely heavily on their young attackers, the pressure is now on Vilakazi to turn his opportunities into goals and consistent performances.
