Sundowns & AmaZulu Announce Starting XIs

DStv Premiership log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns host AmaZulu at Loftus Stadium on Sunday afternoon, and this is how the two teams line up.

It is an opportunity for Sundowns to pull away at the top if they are able to get a victory over an Usuthu side who have been vocal about wanting to challenge the defending champions this season.

A victory for AmaZulu would go a far way to proving that challenge to be a reality, and with a game in hand over Sundowns, it would also move them within striking distance of the log leaders. They are currently five points behind the Brazilians.

It is a fixture that has historically been dominated by Sundowns, who have 20 wins and just six losses in their last 33 meetings.

But while AmaZulu have struggled to beat Sundowns, their previous meeting was a historical victory for Usuthu. That 1-0 win came in December 2021, when Benni McCarthy was still at the club.

Having confirmed their signing of Terrence Mashego, the former Cape Town City defender is already on the Sundowns bench for this fixture, as is Bongani Zungu, who is in line to make his second Sundowns debut.

This is how they line up:

Mamelodi Sundowns XI: Williams, Ngobeni, Mudau, Kekana, De Reuck, Jali, Mbule, Mokoena, Zwane, Saavedra, Shalulile

Subs: Pieterse, Morena, Mashego, Mailula, Maema, Mkhulise, Lebusa, Allende, Zungu

AmaZulu XI: Mothwa, Hanamub, Mukumela, Gumede, Zulu, Khumalo, Buchanan, Makhaula, Maluleka, Mhango, Zuma

Subs: Amonome, Mabiliso, Mgwazela, Mphahlele, Malepe, Brooks, Ceesay, Magaqa, Kunene
